Know your baby’s sleep cycle
Sleep is an important part of life. Any alteration in the sleep cycle can disturb the body functions and the biological clock. This is applicable in babies too. The sleep cycle is more in babies as compared to adults. It can be from 16 – 18 hours a day. This is not continuous. Short naps with feeding breaks are in the day time while sound sleep with breaks is seen at night. A set pattern of sleep should be exercised so as to practice a good sleeping time table.
The short span of sleep at night is seen at night if there are irritations caused by any diseases or disturbances. This can be cold, acidity, breathing problems and sound. The place where the baby is sleeping should be clean with dim lights and no sound at all. A small sound can disturb the baby and wake him up from the sleep.
The hours of sleep decreases as the age increases. It will reduce from 16 to 10 hours a day in first six months. Then gradually with more food and energy sleeping hours decreases. A timetable in the house will help the kid to maintain a wake up sleep cycle. The food should contain more protein and carbohydrates as more physical exercise starts. This will ensure sleep cycle in a normal pace and less REM phase. Parents should also sleep according to the newborn baby sleep pattern at nights. This will help feeding the baby and thus taking care of the baby.
