Probiotic Yogurts 'May Help' Hay Fever
“Is YOGURT the secret to easing hay fever? Probiotics can relieve sneezing and itchy eyes,” a new study suggests. The study, which was conducted by researchers from the University School of Medicine in Nashville, focused on 23 trials which were investigating the effect that probiotic supplements tend to have on hay fever.
According to several records, Hay fever has affected almost one in five people and it usually causes running nose, itchy eyes as well as frequent sneezing. Hay fever usually happens in an event that allergic irritant sets off a response by one’s immune system in the mucosa of the nasal passages which, as a result ends up causing an allergic reaction. While many of the studies revealed that there are some benefits for at least a particular outcome, other studies revealed that there was no benefit at all.
The researchers of the study concluded that as much as probiotics tend to have some benefits when it is added to other treatments of hay fever, there is still need for a higher-quality study to be conducted so as measure the exact effects which are brought about by probiotics. For the study, the researchers were extra cautious about the results that they will be releasing. According to the researchers the differences between the studies, for instance different sizes in the study’s population as well as the difference, meant that it was possible that probiotic’s positive effects on one’s life quality they found “may be at least partially due to confounding factors and differences between studies”.
