A Couple Benefits of Lean Meat

Lean meat is better than the red meat because it contains protein in abundant quantities however its fat content is very low. This is why the lean meat also has lower amount of calories. Aside from certain concerns related to the use of antibiotics, lean meat is a safe option for protein intake.

Lean meats are those portions of the meats which have much lower fat content. For instance, skinned turkey and chicken are considered as lean meat. Certain areas of the red meat where the fat has been removed are also considered as lean meat; for instance, pork chop with fat removed is a lean meat. The skin of the chicken contains nearly eighty percent of its entire fat content. Once the skin is removed, the fat is considerably reduced.

There are many benefits of lean meats. As already mentioned they are a very good source of protein and contain much lesser calories than their red meat counterparts. If you are on a low-fat and low calorie diet regime, then lean meats are best for you. The lean meats also contain vitamin B3, B6, choline and selenium in good quantities.

It is well known fact that selenium is an antioxidant. The antioxidants are required by the body to fight the free radicals and prevent the cell damage. Selenium is also known for improving the immune system. On the other hand, Vitamins B3 and B6 are required by the body to make glucose from carbohydrate. Also, B3 contains niacin, which is important for the generation of sex hormones.
