Was Sesame Street educational?

Most children have watched, at least once, the famous TV series Sesame Street. Aired for the first time in 1969, the series was controversial from the beginning, but this did not stop millions of children from becoming fans. The TV series was meant to be more than just something entertaining for the children; Sesame Street was educational.

With cultural references, life lessons, learning songs, and learning the 3 R’s, this TV series aimed at improving the knowledge of any child while keeping him amused at the same time.

Several surveys in the USA have stated that almost 95% of the children in 1995 watched at least one episode. This is a clear proof of how popular this series was and how much it taught and entertained two generations of kids.

Now, was this series truly educational? The answer is yes. Each episode was carefully prepared by a team of writers, producers, and specialists to make sure the program was gentle, educational and kept children focused on the content. With fast-moving action, humor, amazing characters and music, every episode is a reason of joy and amusement.

The producers chose to address important issues, such as social diversity, discrimination, racism, as well as differences between social classes. These issues might seem complicated for a child, but they became simple when they were presented in the series with puppets and songs.

The Sesame Street series was appropriate for children of all ages, and many parents noticed that this series made their children more open to the world and more willing to go to pre-school or school. As time passed, the episodes became more and more sophisticated and eventually turning into the best TV show for children.
